Are carbon fiber hockey sticks worth it?

For most players who are past their first season, yes. A one-piece carbon fiber stick is lighter and stiffer for its weight than wood or a two-piece, so more of your effort reaches the puck and less is lost in the shaft. You feel it most on shots and in your hands over a long shift. The trade is price and that carbon can crack on a hard enough impact.

What carbon fiber actually does

Carbon fiber is strong for how light it is. That lets a stick be light in your hands and still snap back fast when you load a shot. A 385 gram Senior stick is easier to move through a stickhandle and quicker to release than a heavy wood twig, and the stiffness means the energy you put in comes back out instead of dying in a soft shaft. Where the money goes

You are paying for the material and the build, not a paint job. Every Maila is 100% carbon fiber, one piece, with one honest flex per size. There is no cheaper core hiding under the finish. The honest downsides

• Impact. Carbon is tough in normal play but can crack under a hard slash or a blocked slap shot. Wood tends to splinter slowly instead.
